Staghorn Sumac cough syrup

Sumac is useful for soothing coughs.

Ingredients :

  • About 7 sumac buds
  • 1 cup of brandy or of rum 
  • 1 cup of honey 3 acres

Instructions :

  1. Place the sumac buds in a liter jar.
  2. Pour the brandy or rum into another bottle with the honey and stir until the honey is dissolved.
  3. Pour the honey mixture into the bud jar to completely cover the sumac.
  4. Store the jar in a cool, dark place for 6 weeks or longer, and shake the jar regularly.
  5. When ready, strain through a fine sieve and throw the solids into the compost.
  6. Transfer your delicious cough syrup to a clean bottle, labeled with the date. Store in a cool, dark place for up to a year.
